When I worked on Broadway, I was often asked “What’s your favorite part about your job?”. My answer was never the lavish Opening Night parties or the annual Tony Awards telecast. For me, of course, it was ticketing specific. When I first entered the world of ticketing after realizing that my acting would never land me a role on stage, I never imagined this would become the most fulfilling career path for me. So you might be wondering… what was my favorite part about working on Broadway?
It always is the first preview of a new show on Broadway! Witnessing the excitement as ticket holders entered the theatre for the very first time, ready to embark on an adventure, reminds me of why we do the hard work we do behind a computer screen. The smiles on their faces as they have their tickets scanned and enter the house marked the beginning of an enchanting experience. Backstage, or rather, front of house, resonated with its unique magic — the sounds of tickets being scanned, audiences chattering, and overpriced drinks being mixed created a symphony of anticipation.
I do have a second favorite; it’s “on-sale” day! A cherished on-sale memory of mine was when a big name rockstar was performing a limited run at the smallest Broadway theatre. We all sat around the computer screen and watched the entire run sell out in under two hours! Most onsales weren’t that intense but there was always excitement in the air, and donuts in the kitchen.

This week’s quote is an inspiration for this new endeavor. I am buying the ticket. I am taking the ride. Working in ticketing is not just a job; it’s an adventure that allows us to play a pivotal role in creating unforgettable experiences for others. Whether it’s the thrill of a sold-out show or the joy of a first-time theatre-goer, every day in ticketing brings new surprises and satisfaction. Embrace the ride, for in live entertainment, the journey is just as extraordinary as the destination!
See you next Tuesday!
