Is it just me or do all folks in the ticketing industry love Leap Day? Or are you scratching your head wondering, what is Lisa even going on about this week?
3 out of every 4 years, February and March become a ticketing and customer service nightmare for long-running or open-ended shows that have performances across both months (think Broadway theaters or Vegas residencies). With February typically having only 28 days, the 7 days of the week and the date numbers line up in February and March. This leads to an increase in customer service issues for people who purchased the right day but the wrong month. It’s very easy to confuse “Monday the 6th” with “Monday the 6th” when the cart countdown clock is ticking and you frantically enter the code on the back of your credit card in hopes of securing the perfect seats.

But this year is a glorious year, a day everyone in ticketing should celebrate; it’s Leap Day! This year it’s much harder to confuse “Monday the 5th” with “Monday the 4th”. As ticket sellers, we can rest easy this year knowing that we won’t have as many people showing up with February’s tickets to a March performance.

As someone who grew up at the ballet barre, I need to take this opportunity to share another favorite “leap” of mine, the grand jeté.
So, what will you do with your extra 24 hours in 2024? I’m going to see Cleveland Play House’s “The Play That Goes Wrong”!
