I was in high school when the original Mean Girls film came out in 2004. I remember seeing it in theaters, I rewatched the DVD, and bought a digital copy as soon as it was available. In 2017, it was announced that Mean Girls would be coming to Broadway the following spring and I was excited to get to work on the show. I even started wearing pink on Wednesdays during that time. Of course the box office opened on October 3rd and Tina Fey was there giving out free cheese fries to anyone who bought a ticket!

Now, 20 years after the original film came out, the Mean Girls (the movie: the musical: the movie) has made its way to the big screen. It’s rare that I’d say this I prefer the 2024 film adaptation of the musical over the stage production and recommend giving it a watch. There is a lot of E.l.f. product placement in the musical movie but the “ICMT State Math Championship MATHLETES Sponsored by SEAT GEEK” sent me! I know Lindsay Lohan’s cameo was supposed to be the big reveal of that moment but it was seeing a ticketing company do embedded marketing for me.
